Yet I know the occasional smart person (male or female) who is obnoxious, wants to be smarter than everyone else, and needs to prove his or her intelligence. That's not sexy; it drives people away, both in friendship and in relationships.
Exactly. And that, right there, is usually directly tied into the confidence vs. pride issue. A confident person has nothing to prove. A proud person feels the need to put themselves on a pedestal to make themselves feel a false sense of confidence, often disregarding anyone else in the process. I had that issue in my last relationship; my ex had a very hard time admitting being wrong, and I'm the kind of person who likes to learn from, share, laugh off and fix mistakes. Naturally, it stayed an issue from day one to both mid-breakups, all the way to my having to leave her a year later. Just something to think about.
