Just please, please, please don't do the soul patch. All it tells a woman is that you're either gay or a complete douche. If you want facial hair, either a 5 o'clock shadow or a short beard is fine.
Never heard of a "soul patch", explain

Some stubble is alright. Or a teeny bit. I'm not a huge fan of facial hair =\

Well I guess I like variety, I'll go from gotee to full beard, to clean shaven at a whim! I can grow a full decent looking beard in 4 weeks,. I do some acting, and some times I will do it for the director, as he generally knows what he'd like!

Re: To shave or not to shave?
I'm similar to the original poster; regular shaving just kills my skin, no matter which method, but leaving it to grow long causes me other problems, too. I've got a goatee/moustache which gets trimmed back about every 4-6 weeks, and the rest of my face tends to get trimmed about 2-4 weeks, all dependant upon how fast it decides to grow.
As to whether I'd get rid of the goatee for someone, that's a hard question, as I'm definitely someone who suits it better than without; a friend of mine absolutely hates facial hair of any kind, but even she had to admit that I looked better with it, when I first grew it.
